First edition of Goodsir's account of his first attempt to find his brother Harry -- the assistant surgeon and naturalist for the missing Franklin Expedition -- while serving as the surgeon aboard the whaler Advice during the 1849 Arctic season. Copy is in good to very good condition. Plainly, but nicely, rebound in blue cloth. Minimal wear to the boards. Interior is clean and unmarked. Pages still bright and clear. Untrimmed page edges; gilt to top. A touch of loss to the fold-out map following the preface. Else in very good shape. A well-preserved original copy of a fascinating and important Arctic text.
