Hardcover (good)
Ex-libris Hugh Montgomerie, 12th Earl of Eglinton (1739-1819); signed by him on each title page.

A very handsome early English language edition of the classic collection of Middle Eastern folktales. This set features the early, anonymous "Grub Street" English translation of Galland's French version. Thirteenth edition: complete in four volumes (the earlier editions from the 1750s issued Galland's twelve volumes in six volumes). All volumes in this set are in good+ condition (perhaps closer to very good considering their age). Some general wear to the calf leather boards. Fraying to the extremities. Vols. I and III have a touch of damage to the heads of their spines. Interiors are very good indeed. Bindings are all solid and secure. Interiors are clean and unmarked save for name stamp from the most recent former owner on each volume's front end paper. Front and rear end papers also bear pasted bookplates another former owner, Hugh, Earl of Eglinton. This is presumed to be Hugh Montgomerie, the 12th Earl of Eglinton (1739-1819), the noted Scottish politician, soldier, and composer. Title pages also each bear the signature "H. Montgomerie". A most handsomely preserved set of somewhat auspicious provenance.
